Colorful flower beds of filled with cheery blooms surround the home of Pam and Skeeter Hostetler, 305 N. Pinet St, chosen as the August 2021 Yard of the Month by the Jefferson Garden Club. Unique touches visible throughout the landscape show the couple’s creativity.
An antique wagon centered with a bountiful display of red and white geranium along with their carved name sign, hydrangea, daisies and pampas grass create a welcoming view. Large drifts of black eyed susans nearby are sunny occupants on the corner of the lot.
The bounty from the well-tended vegetable garden includes cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, carrots, onions, radishes, melons and asparagus. Marigolds, bright yellow daylilies and sedum transition back to flower beds.
Around the corner, another bed features hot pink and deep coral coneflowers with mums for fall color, silver mound border and anchored by stately Karl Foerster reed grass for height. Tucked in the corner is a small fountain Skeeter made that circulates water through a decorative wine bottle and barrel. A birdfeeder also by Skeeter and pots of petunias rest near where a tree was lost in a storm.
Each has talents in keeping up the large yard, he mows and she tends the flowers and vegetables. It works well for them, they agreed.
